SCSS-powered blank theme für CONTAO

This theme has been build for CONTAO CMS. C4 INITIAL helps you start any project in just a few clicks.

It is free for you to use it, change it – and finally become cool!

"But", you say, "it has no styles at all!!!" "Damn right", I say!

If you are tired of implementing already prepared themes for a 100th time, and bored of just writing classes in a lifeless, million times seen bootstrap-based theme, beacuse all of it is fucking unchallenging you and kills your creativity? Well... welcome home, darling! This is where you HAVE TO WRITE EVERYTHING by yourself, all those beautiful colors and backgrounds and aligns and floats and displays and transitions and and and...

OK, not quite everything:

C4 INITIAL uses all the amazing CONTAO core features, and comes, amongst others, with Scheme.org compliant module templates, mandatory stucture & content like "403" & "404", "Home", "Contact" and "Imprint" & "Privacy Policy", according to the EU/German DGSVO (without any liabilities!). It has some basic settings & functions, like jQ Sticky Footer, a jQ Menu Engine for mobiles, etc. Do you like working with a flexbox-based grid? It is all inside of this beauty! Everything can easily be modified, as long you´re familiar with HTML5 & SCSS.

No need for gulp or node.js, just install C4 INITIAL, and you are good to go!

All this works OUT OF THE BOX! No 💩! But NOTICE: C4 INITIAL runs on new, clean CONTAO 4 projects only! By installing it, the theme might override some database tables, so do not use it on existing projects, except it´s a total relaunch – and this is where C4 INITIAL really kicks in!

You already have a perfect workflow? Well, stick to it, and thanks for visiting! But if you are willing to try something new, and/or you are a newby to CONTAO, or you just want to look for some "mistakes" in C4 INITIAL, so you can bitch & complain about it: this thing is the real deal!

Use Fontello, by just adding a CSS-class to your HTML-tag – all icons are ready to use, but only the ones you need well be loaded! Choose (out of more than 25 different!) a fancy, animated hamburger for your responsive main menu show off! Make your own grid, by just changing a few variables! Style your buttons and forms in seconds!

In the _variables.scss you can implement all the basic settings like margins, paddings, font-size, colors, etc. Since we are using a CSS preprocessor in C4 INITAL, you get to do all the nerdy stuff with variables, for loops, if/else queries – just like a reeeal developer 🤓. It is modular, so you can chose what to use – and what not. Just comment out the line of the style or the function you don´t need, and your project runs even a little bit faster, no matter how impossible this sounds.

For a better and faster workflow we recomend usage of two CONTAO backend-extensions: OM-Backend & CSS-Style-Selector (which you actually really need to run C4 INITIAL).

  • Download Contao Initial

  • Start Terminal

  • Log in to your server

  • Choose the right folder

  • Install Contao 4

    composer create-project contao/managed-edition .

  • Install extensions:

    composer require craffft/css-style-selector-bundle
    composer require omosde/contao-om-backend

  • Initiate Contao 4

    https://your-project.com/contao/install

  • Update database!

  • Contao > Settings > Data-Uploads > Max. Upload-Size > 9048000 > Save

  • Contao > Layout > Themes > Theme-Import > Upload „contao-inital.cto“ > Theme-Import
